A quick 5 point meeting agenda
Having an agenda for a meeting is good practice we are told; if we want to avoid wasting everyone’s time and get valuable work done together.
But what happens if you as the leader of the group forgot to create an agenda for a meeting or maybe don’t know what needs discussing in that moment?
Why not ask the members at the meeting what they want to talk about?
Here’s a quick 5-point agenda that you can put together with the help of your team at the meeting. Write out the 5 points so everyone can see, get everybody to pitch in to complete the list, once the agenda is clear and complete go ahead and start your meeting.
1. IN — have members check-in around a question like ‘what has your attention as you come into this meeting?’
2. LAST — make a list of discussion items pending from last time
3. NEW — make a list of items people wish to talk about now
4. NEXT — make a list of what people want to talk about at the next meeting
5. OUT — have all members check-out around a question like ‘how do you feel leaving this meeting?’
If you can remember this list you can use it in any group discussion.
I learnt this from the founder of Blue Scorcher Bakery while studying Sociocracy. They follow a Sociocratic governance model http://www.bluescorcher.coop/governance and meetings, effective meetings are as important to a bakery as they are to any business.
Don’t have an agenda? Co-create one!
